Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs)Â
are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly, breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more.
Most OMDs originate with habitual insufficient nasal breathing or with mouth breathing. The subsequent adaptation of the muscles and the orofacial muscle function then lead to other OMDs and a disordered breathing pattern. These muscle dysfunctions and symptoms may impact treatments by orthodontists, dentists, dental hygienists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals.

"Khrisi was amazing to work with! My dentist recommended I go see her before going down a very long and expensive surgical route to fix my bite. Khrisi clocked what was causing my bite issues within a couple of minutes. It was amazing! I left our consultation with better information, feeling hopeful and ready to work. Working with Khrisi, I saw changes really quickly and she was a wealth of information throughout. Today, I’m so happy with my bite and I can’t thank Khrisi enough."

"As a teeth grinder my habit became a major problem when an accident resulted in one of my front teeth getting pulled and replaced with an implant. Grinding on the implant despite using a mouth guard left me in pain and discomfort. Thankfully I found Annie at Coulson and Associates! After engaging fully in therapy with Annie I am thrilled to say that my teeth grinding has improved and I no longer have pain! I can without a doubt say that if you trust in the process and commit to the change, it can happen! Even at 44 years old! Thank you Annie for giving me my mouth back!!"

"Khrisi and the rest of the staff have been fantastic to work with. Not only have they done great work with my daughter, but Khrisi is a joy to be around with an upbeat, fun personality. Not to mention the vast knowledge she has with all things oral-related. Would definitely recommend."
